The Pharisees and the scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, why do your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders?
For they do not wash their hands when they eat. Jesus answered them, why do you transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?
For God commanded, honor your father and your mother, and, he who speaks evil of father or mother, let him surely die. But you say if anyone tells his father or his mother, what you would have gained from me is given to God, he need not honor his father. For the sake of your tradition, you have made void the word of God.
You hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said, this person honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me, in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.
He called the people to him and said to them, hear and understand, not what goes into the mouth defiles a man, but what comes out of the mouth, this defines a man.
Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying,
Jesus said every plant which my heavenly father has not planted will be rooted up.
Let them alone, they are blind guides. And if a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit. But Peter said to him, explain the parable to us. He said, are you also still without understanding?
Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and so passes on? But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a man. Out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, and slander. These are what defiles a man but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.
Beloved, as we know what defiles a man, let transgress the tradition of the elders which does not bring life improvement.
Never live the life like the Pharisees and the scribes because they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders, but they will not move them with their fingers.
They do all their deeds to be seen by men, they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, and they love the place of honor at the feast and the best seats in the synagogues, and salutations in the marketplaces.
They shut the kingdom of heaven against men, for they neither enter into nor allow those who would enter to go in.
They traverse sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, they make him twice as much a child of hell as themselves.
They say if anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath. Which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred?
They say, if ananyonewears by the altar, it is nothing, but if one swears by the gift that is on the altar, he is bound by his oath.
Which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred?
He who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it, and he who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who dwells in it, and he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits upon it.
Beloved, let us live to resemble the disciples of Christ, as they devoted themselves to the teachings of the apostles. As the coming of Christ is at hand, let us be careful because as the scripture says In Mathew 24:23 that false Christ and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
I have told you beforehand. So, if they say to you, he is in the wilderness, do not go out, if they say he is in the inner rooms, do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the son of man.
Immediately after the tribulations of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
Then will appear the sign of the son of man in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory, and he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other
Beloved, let your loin be girded and your lamps burning and are like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the marriage feast, so that they may open to him at once when he comes and knocks.
Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes, he will gird himself and have them sit at the table, and he will come and serve them.
May the good lord help us to enter the narrow way as the coming of Christ is at hand. Let's continually visit this site for more articles. Please anyone with suggestions and ideas should leave them in the comments section for us to discuss.
