The twelve disciples are Jesus, close friends. They were selected when Jesus was ministering to the people. They were many in numbers but few remained at the end. The names of the disciples are Peter, Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew/Nathanael, Mathew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, Judas the Greator, and Judas Iscariot.
They were very humble in their service and their life. These followers of Christ perform a lot in their service. They won many souls for the kingdom and gave lands to the needy. In this article, we are going to discuss a brief history of each follower of Christ.
Peter:
As it was mentioned earlier, Peter was one of the disciples selected by Jesus Christ. Jonah gave birth to Peter as it was stated in the scripture. As Jesus was walking beside the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. Jesus said to them, come and follow me. At once they left their nets and followed him.
His family came from Bethsaida in Galilee but during the period of Jesus' ministry, Peter lived in Capernaum, at the northwest end of the Sea of Galilee. Simon was a brother to St. Andrews and they were in partnership as fishermen. Peter performed and won many souls for the kingdom. He led the followers when Jesus ascended to heaven. He performed many miracles and gave hands to the needy.
Andrew:
Andrew was one of the followers of Christ as it was stated earlier. Andrew was a brother to Peter. Jesus came across Andrew and his brother fishing and told them to follow him. Andrew and his brother left their careers as fishermen and followed Christ.
John:
John was one of the followers of Christ. John was the youngest of the twelve disciples. John was a brother to James. John lived to a great age. He lived long enough to see Jerusalem destroyed by the Romans and the temple rained. John was the son of Zebedee. He was very obedient in his ministry and won many souls in his service.
Philip:
Philip was one of the followers of Christ as it was stated earlier. Herod was the father of Philip. Philip lives in the city of Bethsaida. He also was among those surrounding John the Baptist. Philip was a fisherman. He worked with Peter, Andrew, James, and John.
Bartholomew/Nathanael:
Bartholomew was one of the disciples of Christ. Talmai was the father of Bartholomew. Bartholomew was a doctor in Jewish law and a friend of St. Philip the Apostle. He worked very hard and won many souls for the kingdom of God.
Mathew:
Mathew was one of the disciples of Christ. Alphaeus was the father of Matthew. Mathew was a tax collector. Because of his profession, we can guess that he was well-educated and knew more languages, including Greek. He worked very hard in the kingdom of Christ and won many souls for the kingdom.
Thomas:
Thomas was one of the disciples of Christ. Thomas was a very dedicated Apostle of Jesus and witnessed many miracles as he walked and talked firsthand with Jesus. Thomas was born in Galilee to a humble family. He was a jew. Thomas is commonly known as " Doubting Thomas" because we doubted the resurrection of Jesus Christ when he was told of it.
James son of Alphaeus:
James(son of Alphaeus) was one of the disciples of Christ. His mother's name was Mary and she was one of the women who went to the tomb of Jesus and found that it had been opened. He sang in Jerusalem the first mass that ever was there, and he was the first bishop of Jerusalem. He was born in Galilee.
Simon the Zealot:
Simon(the zealot) is one of the disciples of Christ. He was born in Cana in Galilee. He worked very hard in the kingdom of Christ and won many souls in the kingdom.
Judas the Greater:
Judas( the Greator) was one of the disciples of Christ. He was also named as Jude. Jude was the one who attended Jesus' last supper, and he asked Jesus why he would not openly reveal himself to the entire world. He worked very hard in the kingdom of God.
Judas Iscariot:
Judas(Iscariot) was one of the disciples of Christ. Judas was born in "Kerioth” a city in Judea. He was the one who betrayed Jesus by disclosing Jesus' whereabouts for 30 pieces of silver. Judas brought men to arrest Jesus and identified him with a kiss.
