The commandment of God was given to Moses when he was invited to Mount Sinai by Almighty God. Almighty God gave this commandment to the Israelites to abide by it every day. As believers knowing this commandment will help us because " All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work”. These commandments are as follows;
You shall have no other God before me:
God knows what is good for us. And as believers, we have to focus on him without seeking help from any gods. Our heavenly Father not only provides for us but when we serve him diligently and obey his voice, he goes ahead and rewards us. Living in serving only God in all things, even the mundane, is a great way to show your love and respect for him.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven images:
Serving God without making any graven images is one of the points to consider as Christians. serving graven images means comparing the so-called gods to our maker. Serving God without any graven image will allow us to experience true freedom, joy, and peace. It also provides strength in difficult times, wisdom for making good decisions, and hope for the future.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain:
God wants us to know that his name is important. When you misuse or disrespect God's name, you are offending the creator of the universe. God wants his name to be treated with respect.
Serving God without taking the name in vain will help us to achieve our goals in life. Obeying the will of God will help us to remain important because it teaches us habits that we need to develop to live life in the right relationship with God, self, others, and things.
Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy:
The Sabbath day is the day we ought to keep holy as believers.
The Lord has given the sabbath day for our benefit and has commanded us to keep it holy. Observing the Sabbath shows our commitment to honor and worship God and keep our covenants. Keeping the Sabbath day will bring us closer to the lord and our family. It will also give us an eternal perspective and spiritual strength.
Honor your father and mother:
Honoring the elderly people teaches us how to respect that authority and be respected by those we have authority over. Showing honor to our parents demonstrates the love of Christ. It creates strong bonds in our families, heals broken relationships, and helps us grow as Christians. The Scripture reminds us, " Children, obey your parents in the lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother, that it may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth”.
Thou shall not commit adultery:
Adultery is viewed not only as a sin between an individual and God but an injustice that reverberates through society by harming it's fundamental unit. He who commits adultery fails in his commitment.
Thou shalt not steal:
Being able to say you earned it rather than have to lie about where you got it. Stealing harms the person you take from, and it harms you. Stealing is typically considered a crime of moral breach, hence it is not recommended in the community standards.
Thou shalt not bear false witness:
Bearing false witness does far more than distort and corrupt truth. It shatters peace, erodes trust, and violates all of humanity. By injuring man's relation to truth and his neighbor, a lie offends against the fundamental relation of man and his word to the lord.
You shall not covet:
Desiring something we should not have is a dangerous trap for people both poor and rich. The commandment refers to the desire to the point of seeking to take something that belongs to another individual. People steal because they covet something that doesn't belong to them.
Beloved, anyone who breaks the commandment will be held accountable. Please let's abide by the commandments of God to live a righteous life. Thanks for being with us.
