The Story Of Jonah.

Brethren, we thank Almighty God for giving us this day to continue sharing His word as it was written in the book of John.

Jonah was one of the minor prophets according to the classification of the prophet.

The minor prophet in the Holy Bible are:

Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.

In this article, we are going to learn the moral lesson about the story of Jonah.

Story of Jonah:

According to the book of Jonah, we got to know that Amitai was the father of Jonah.

One day, the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amitai, saying

arise go to Nineveh, that great city and cry against it; for their wickedness has come up before me.

But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

There was a nearby town to take the ship going to Tarshish.

Jonah pay the fare and went inside to go with them.

On their way to Nineveh, some incidents occur.

Almighty God hurled a great wind upon the sea.

The passengers On the ship were afraid because the ship threatens to break up.

Upon all this incident Jonah was inside sleeping while the other

passengers were throwing their items into the sea to lighten the ship for them.

Because the captain knows Jonah as the prophet of Almighty God because Jonah has described himself to him,

the captain came and said to Jonah, what do you mean you sleeper?

Arise, call upon your God! Perhaps God will give a thought to us, that we do not perish.

The Mariners decided to cast lots, that we may know on whose account this evil has come upon us.

So they cast lots and the lots fell upon Jonah.

The Mariners ask questions from Jonah and he replies

I am a Hebrew and I fear the Lord who made the sea and the dry land.

The Mariners were afraid of hearing that news from Jonah and

they said to him, what is this that you have done?

The mariners continue to ask Jonah what shall we do to you, that the sea may quiet down for us?

Jonah said to them, "take me up and throw me into the sea after that

the sea will quiet down for you because Jonah knows it's because of Him.

They were afraid to throw Jonah into the sea so they try

what they can to save Jonah but their idea couldn't stop the movement of the sea.

The Mariners threw Jonah into the sea and the ship ceased from it raging.

The passengers on the ship fear the Lord for what had happened and they offered sacrifice to the lord.

After throwing Jonah into the sea, Almighty God appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah.

Jonah was in the belly of the shark for three days and three nights.

Jonah began to pray to the lord and the lord spoke to the fish and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

The word of God came to Jonah the second time, saying,

arise go to Nineveh, that great city and proclaim to them the message that I gave you.

Jonah arose and went to Nineveh to spread the word of God but Nineveh was three days journey in breadth.

Jonah spread the word of God to the people of Nineveh.

But the people of Nineveh believe in God and they proclaim a fast and put on sackcloth,

from the greatest of them to the least of them.

This message reached the king of Nineveh and he arose from his throne,

removed his robe and covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

And the king proclaim to the people of his city,

Neither man nor a beast, herd nor flock, taste anything, because

who knows God may repent and turn from his fierce anger.

When Almighty God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way,

God repented of the evil which he had said he would do to them.

What happens when Almighty God repented from what he was going to do to the people of Nineveh?

Jonah was angry and prayed to God that

this is because he decided not to spread his word in the city of Nineveh.

Jonah went out of the city and sat to the east of the city to find a place for himself.

He waited under one of the shades to see what will happen to the people of Nineveh.

This was the story of Jonah when Almighty God sent him to spread his word to them because

their wickedness has come up before the lord.

Do brethren please what have we studied from this article?

Per my understanding of this story,

I have learned that we should respond to God
when he called us

because he knows our needs more than what we expected.
