The power of the holy spirit in the life of believers.

The power of the holy spirit is the divine energy and ability that enables believers to live a life pleasing to God, fulfill their purpose, and accomplish his will. The holy spirit has various functions in the life of believers and in the world. The scripture also reminds us in act 1:8 “but you will receive power when the holy spirit has come upon you, and you will be witness in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. The power that has been invested in the holy spirit share a lot of benefits in our life and some of them would be share in this article.

• Regeneration

Regeneration is the work of the spirit where he sparks spiritual life into the dead heart of the unbeliever so that he can see, hear and comprehend the gospel. Regeneration is needed in the life of believers because without it the holy spirit cannot possibly abide within believers. At regeneration, a believer receives a new spirit to abide in him forever. As the scripture remind us, “for we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the regeneration and renewal of the holy spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our savior”.

• Sanctification

Sanctification is the process of becoming like Jesus, a gift of the fulness of salvation.  Sanctification is a work of the spirit. It’s a continuous process of being made perfect in the love of God and removing the desire to sin. As the scripture reminds us, “And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the lord Jesus Christ and by the spirit of our God”.

• Conviction of sin

Conviction is the work of the holy spirit where a person is able to see himself or herself as God sees he/she: guilty, defiled, and totally unable to save himself.

The holy spirit convicts the world of sin, not sins, but sin. When the holy spirit convicts us of something wrong, it means God wants us to make it right. When we acknowledge our shortfalls before God, there is nothing shameful about it.  Those who respond to this conviction and place their faith in Jesus Christ receive eternal life and a new nature. Because conviction is from the holy spirit and its good for us, when we are convicted of something, it means we have a good standing with the holy spirit. As the scripture reminds us “And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgement”.

• Guidance

Guidance involves personal help giving by someone. As believers of God, when we are guiding by the spirit, it means the spirit will lead us. As followers of Christ, we must extend our hearts and hands to him first, for without our cooperation, he cannot guide us anywhere. Following the leading of the holy spirit means doing what we know God wants us to do, yielding to the spirit and not to the flesh, obeying the part that wants what God wants, not to the part that wants to sin. As the scripture reminds, “when the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak and he will declare to you the things that are to come”.

• Empowerment for service.

Empowerment is a gift from God, an invitation to live a life that reflects His power, purpose, and love. When believers are empowered by the holy spirit, they become dynamic, active, receive permission, legal right and allowance to act on behalf of God. The holy spirit empowers Christians in their walk with the lord. And also, the empowerment of the holy spirit deepens our relationship with God the father and Jesus Christ and prepares us to take part in growing the church and advancing the kingdom oof God on earth. Lastly, the empowerment of the holy spirit guides us and open doors for the gospel, providing us with wisdom and the courage to speak, convicting and drawing people to Jesus, and confirming the truth of our message. As the scripture reminds us, “But you will receive power when the holy spirit has come upon us, and you will be my witness in Jerusalem and in all Judea and to the end of the earth”.

• Spiritual gifts

Spiritual gift are blessings or abilities given by God to his children through the power of the holy ghost. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. The gift of the holy spirit enables them to carry out the wide variety ministries God calls them to. God gave out the holy spirit so that we can introduce people to the power of the God who loves them and wants to change their lives. Spiritual gifts are design to equip believers to serve in kingdom work, they are design to build up the body of Christ and ring unity of faith, and knowledge of Christ. As the scripture reminds us, “For to one is given through the spirit the utterance of knowledge according to the same spirit, to another faith by the same spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one spirit”.

• Transformation into Christ image

To become new again, to make new, young or strong, to bring back into good condition, the mind is to be renewed. Because of the gift of Gods spirit, we are also promised a small foretaste in this life. As the scripture remind us, “and we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another”.  Beloved, the more we boldly come into God’s presence, the more changes we become and reflect the lord’s glory.
