The nature of God

The nature of God has been explored and defined in various ways throughout Christian history, leading to diverse perspectives and theological framework. The nature of God refers theologically to who and what he is in his personal being. There are no real divisions or distinctions of this nature; the entirety of God is whatever is attributed to him. The qualities of Gods reflect the essence of God character and how he relates to his creation.

Knowing the nature of God as Christians, shares a lot of benefits in our life. It's critical for Christians to understand God's triune nature because God triune nature distinguishes the living God from idols. Knowing God provides several key benefits of which some include;

  • Obedience to God leads to blessing like long life and prosperity.
  • Having knowledge of God brings peace, even in difficult times, as those who trust in God will have perfect peace.
  • Greater knowledge of God equates to more wisdom, enabling better decision making.
  • Our knowledge of God aids our understanding of our own being, purpose, and salvation.

All the great men and women of the bible show a deep knowledge of the one to whom they were praying. As believers of Christ Jesus, we would share some of the nature of God in this article to guide us and always remind us of God faithfulness.

  • God is spirit:

This means that, God is an immaterial substance, of a pure, subtitle, unmixed essence, not compounded of body and soul, without all extension of part. As human being we are defined by our locality. We can be localized at one particular place at one particular time. But the bible teaches what the father is like, not limited by physical corporeality, life giving and incomprehensible. As the scripture says, “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit”.

  • God is infinite:

To be infinite is to be without limits. That’s means Gods being and greatness have no limitations. As the scripture says, “God is from everlasting to everlasting.  He always and eternally exists”. His inexhaustible supply endures across all time. God omniscience means he knows what’s best, even when his methods seem unjust or illogical.

  • God is eternal:

God being eternal means that God’s dominance towards everything, living and non-living, or spiritual, is forever. As the scripture says, “for his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So, they are without excuse”.

  • God is unchangeable:

The immutability of God is an attribute that God is unchanging in his character, will, and covenant promises. As God said, “for I the lord do not change, therefore you, o children of Jacob, are not consumed”. This means God will never be less than he is now, or ever be different from what he has already revealed himself to be in the past.

  • God is omnipresent:

God's omnipresence means that he is present everywhere, all the time. His presence is not limited by time or space.
