Showing repentance in our lives is very important as followers of Christ. Repentance is the way provided for us to become free from our sins and receive forgiveness for them. As Jesus said, " I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance”. Sins slow our spiritual progression and can even stop it. Repentance makes it possible for us to grow and develop spiritually again. Repentance has a lot of benefits in our lives and we shall discuss how we can apply it in our daily lives.

We must recognize our sins:

Knowing our sin requires familiarity with our particular temptations, areas where we are prone to sin. As the scripture says, " If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”.

We must feel sorrow for our sins:

Sorrow comes when we know we have hurt or disappointed another person with our behavior. Repentance requires a broken heart and a contrite spirit. It is that broken spirit and contrite heart that motivates us to change curse our return to God in faithfulness.

We must forsake our sins:

Forsaken our sins count as one of the ways to show our repentance to God. As the scripture says, " He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy”.

We must confess our sins:

We confess sin to God through prayer, but we can also pray for the courage to confess to another person and ask him to help us see any other things we need to confess. As the scripture says," Therefore confess our sins to one another, and pray for one another, that we may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effect”.
